How to ensure you get the most out of your first podiatry visit

Never seen a podiatrist before?
Not sure what to bring?

We’ve got you covered to make sure you get
the most out of your first consultation

Whether you have already seen a podiatrist before or this is your first visit there are a few things to remember. We understand it can feel very overwhelming and intimidating seeing a podiatrist, follow these simple do’s and don’ts to make your visit as comfortable as possible.

DO’s

  1. It is always important to bring a list of medications you are currently taking, past surgeries you have had and any current medical conditions.

  2. Bring in any past or present reports or test results such as x-ray’s, ultrasounds and MRI with you. This will help us diagnose and treat your condition with ease and limit any chasing around to get these documents.

  3. If there are any questions you have for your podiatrist it is always a good idea to either write these down or have them in the front of your mind. These questions can be addressed during your consultation.

  4. If you have private health insurance it can be a good idea to check to see if you are covered with podiatry extra’s. If you have your card with you, we are able to claim on-the-spot at the end of your consultation so you don’t have to worry about doing this yourself afterwards.

  5. For appointments regarding painful feet/ankles or wanting recommendations on footwear it is super important to bring in all your most worn shoes with you. This way we are able to perform an accurate gait analysis in your shoes and suggest appropriate recommendations specific for your foot posture.

DON’TS

  1. As podiatrists we love to make sure you have enough blood flowing to your feet and that your feet are working as they should. We highly recommend not trimming your nails the day before you come to your appointment. This is so we are able to see how your nails grow and what they look like which can give us some indications on your foot health.

  2. We have seen many feet in our years of practice, there is nothing that will shock us so don’t get embarrassed. We understand how intimidating it can be especially if you’ve never seen a podiatrist but we always try our best to create a relaxing, comfortable and welcoming environment.

Last but not least, it is very important to be honest and don’t lie. The only way we can help you is by knowing the full story and history relating to your feet.
